In the process of bonding sand particles (abrasives) with binders, the entire space of the sand particles is not filled, but there is a certain gap left. This gap serves to dissipate heat and accommodate debris. Therefore, this gap will allow a certain amount of air and coolant to enter, which is beneficial for grinding.
Therefore, abrasive, gap, and binder constitute the three major elements of a grinding wheel. The sand particles in the grinding wheel are messy and uneven, which can be seen as thousands of sharp blades. How many sand particles may be produced by the repaired grinding wheel? Although new abrasive particles are generated, the final grinding force is much lower than the dressing efficiency. If grinding continues, it will become dull again, making it impossible to obtain the ideal size and roughness of the ground workpiece, and the grinding heat will also increase. In this case, the grinding wheel must be immediately repaired.
